2. We have multiple important muscles or muscle groups in the body. Chose one of the following and detail its attachment, insertion, the part of the body it moves, and anything else of particular importance: quadriceps; biceps; triceps; hamstrings; gluteus Maximus; gluteus mini us; gastrocnemius; sartorial; rotator cuff; pectorals; wrist flexor a; wrist extensor a; or tibial is anterior. Explain with support of the appropriate chapters in your book. Using Patton, K. T ; & Thibodeau, G.A. (2015) Anatomy and physiology (8th Ed.) Mosby
Quadriceps femoris comprises of 4 muscles on Anterior aspect of thigh .
Four Muscles -Rectus femoris ,Vastus medialis ,Vastus lateralis and Vastus intermedius .
1. Origin --Rectus femoris - Origin from Anterior inferior iliac spine and Acetabulum .
Vastus lateralis origin from Greater trochanter Linea aspera and intertrochanteric line of femur ,Vastus medialis from medial aspect of femur Linea aspera and intertrochanteric line and Vastus intermedius from front of femur .
2.)Insertion - All 4 muscles into tuberosity of Tibia via Patella. Here quadriceps tenson become patellar ligament .
3)Nerve supply ---Femoral nerve (L2,L3 and L4)
4)Action : Extensor of knee so all muscles extend at the knee joint .
5)Additionally action Rectus femoris - Flexion at hip because fibres arise from anterior inferior iliac spine
Vastus lateralis - Displace patella
Vastus medialis - Stabilise patella and adducts the thigh
6)Significance of Muscles - most important muscles help in locomotion like running walking and squatting etc .
