There are many benefits of having an intranet in the organization, the employee engagement increase with the intranet in place and also it increases more collaboration among employees, sending documents across the organizations become easy. People working in different branches of the organization in a different part of the country will also feel together.
While building the intranet in the organization one should think for the security of the system as the employees could be communicating very confidential information over the intranet, thus the security in the system should be of a good level.

In the case of extranet, it is extra in comparison of the intranet, as in case of intranet the organization's employee can communicate, in extranet some other people like clients, vendors can also be there which can communicate in the organization. Thus this method makes communication between people of different background.
While creating the intranet safety is very crucial as there are people present in the extranet which may not be there in the our network and will be connecting in the network from outside. So the level of authentication required for the task should be more.

That was a nice question to answer
