Explain the concept of Chroma key in video editing with an example of use in the industry.
Explain the following terms with examples in relation to digital video:
i) Transition
ii) Scene
Chroma key is a technique used for combining two frame or image by replacing a color range in one frame with that from another frame.
In television and film industry its the technique of using monochromatic background for the purpose of replacing it with different image or scene in post production. In the film industry it is called blue screen
The concept behind this is that the color blue is the opposite color of skin tone, so a distinction between the two is very clear, making it easier to select the color without worrying about any part of the actor being included in the selection. The whole blue selection is then replaced with another frame as the background.
Transition: A transition is a technique used during the post-production process of film or video wherein separate shots or scenes are combined in order to present a cohesive whole. Commonly, especially with film, this is usually just in the form of a "cut," which leads directly to the next scene without any particular visual cue except that the scene has changed. For digital video, the transition can be more visual and obvious such as fade-outs, wipes, dissolves and fades or other visual effects.
Scene: Scene refers to the continuity of the observed action - an association of time, place or characters. The term may refer to the division of the film from the screenplay, from the finished film, or it may only occur in the mind of the spectator who is trying to close on a logic of action.
