Memory capacity and clock speed are two important
characteristics of GPU:
- The GPU is a parallel processing unit of CPU that helps to
perform the graphics related processing and thus CPU can handle the
other computation thus the overall performance of the system will
be boosted.
- Mainly the memory capacity and clock speed determines the
performance of a GPU, the clock speed includes both the processor
clock speed and memory clock speed.
- More the memory capacity means more processes can be kept at
the main memory at the same time increase the performance of
graphic processes also with the higher clock frequency more number
of operations per time.
- Either one of this can’t make a GPU performance better, low
memory capacity or lower clock cycle make other thing
underutilized.
- Thus with both the memory and clock cycle the performance of
the graphic operations can be increased, more processes on the
memory and more processing of this processes per unit time.
Other GPU performance parameters:
- Size of the memory bus: The memory bus size
determines the data transfer speed with in and with the other
parts.
- Number of cores: The number cores determines
the parallel processing capability of GPU, more number of cores,
more the parallel processing capacity.
- RAMDAC speed: This is used to measure the GPU
RAM synchronous and its processing.
