Purpose of Pressure Relief Valve

A pressure relief valve (PRV) is a safety device used to control or limit the pressure in a system, in order to protect the system from increasing beyond the specified design pressure or maximum allowable working pressure. A pressure relief valve must be capable of operating at all times, especially during a period of power failure.

Sequence Valve and Purpose

Sequence valve is a pressure valve designed to open when its set pressure is reached, providing a path of flow alternate and sequential to the primary circuit. A sequence valve is somewhat similar to a relief valve except that after the set pressure has been reached, the sequence valve diverts the fluid to the second actuator to do work in another part of the system. It is used for automated hydraulic functions.

Pressure Compensated Flow Control Valve

A Pressure Compensated Flow Control Valve is a type of flow control device that is a combination of a control orifice and a compensator. The compensator orifice modulates its opening to maintain a constant pressure drop across the control orifice, These pressure compensator valves are designed to provide adjustable controlled flow rates independent of changes in the inlet and/ or outlet pressures above a minimum pressure differential.

Servo Valve and its working

A servo valve is a high-performance device for manipulating sophisticated pipe systems. Its used to start or stop the flow. In sophisticated piping systems, it's not always possible to handle valves manually, doing so doesn't guarantee the accuracy. Servo valves make managing piping systems, particularly closed loop systems, much easier and more efficient. That is because they work using electrical signals and are operated remotely. Servo valves are often used in a feedback control where the position or force on a hydraulic cylinder is measured and fed back into a controller that varies the signal sent to the servo valve. This allows very precise control of the cylinder.

An electric command signal (flow rate setpoint) is applied to the integrated position controller which drives the pilot stage. The thereby deflected nozzle flapper system produces a pressure difference across the drive areas of the spool and affects its movement. The position transducer (LVDT) which is excited via an oscillator measures the position of the spool (actual value, position voltage). This signal is then demodulated and fed back to the controller where it is compared with the command signal. The controller drives the pilot stage until the error between the command signal and the feedback signal will be zero. Thus the position of the spool is proportional to the electric command signal.

An engineer has designed a valve that will regulate water pressure on an automobile engine.  The valve was tested on 220 engines and the mean pressure was 5.8 lbs/square inch.  Assume the standard deviation is known to be 0.6.  If the valve was designed to produce a mean pressure of 5.7 lbs/square inch, is there sufficient evidence at the 0.02 level that the valve does not perform to the specifications?
