"The New York Times" Newspaper article by By Neil Irwin "Why the U.S.-China Trade War Could Be Long and Painful...". Can you analysis the article for my International business class. Please
The article reflects upon the ongoing US China Trade war and the respective positions of the Leaders of China and USA. The trade war between USA and China, and its continuation is somehow contributed to the positions and logic held by the leaders that makes its solution to be taken place in a long time if it happens. The US position is to renegotiate the trade deal and give the specific protection to the US goods and Intellectual property rights. These are the demands that have been the basis of Trump's promises during the election and the part of agenda in global trade so that he can make America great again. In contrast to it, China is unable to meet these specific demands of special treatment to the US goods and it has trade relations all over the world and those relations get affected if US is given the special treatment. It makes the creation of great standoff and no any party is willing to move away from their position.
USA is not interested, because
renegotiation is the basis of their governance and electoral
promises and China cannot move away, because it will disturb its
global trade relations with rest of the world and everyone will
start demanding the same treatment. Hence, it is the standoff of
principles and policies, rather a standoff of goods & services
that is making the trade war to be long and painful.
