The president has read in industry journals that throughput time, MCE, and delivery cycle time are important measures of performance, but no one is sure how they are computed. You have been asked to assist the company, and you have gathered the following data relating to these measures:

Assume that in month 6 the inspection time, process time, and so forth, are the same as in month 4, except that the company is able to eliminate both the queue time during production and the inspection time using Lean Production. Hence, Throughput time = Process time+Inspection time+move time+queue time

MCE = Value added time/Throughput time

Only value added time = Process time

Part A:(values for month 5 same as in month 4 except queue time is 0)

Process time = 1.1

Inspection time = 0.7

Move time = 0.6

Queue time = 0

Hence, calculating metrics using above mentioned formulae:

Throughput time = 1.1 + 0.7 + 0.6 + 0 = 2.4

MCE = 1.1/2.4 = 0.458 = 0.5(rounding to one decimal place)

Part B:(Values for month 6 are the same as in month 4 except both queue time and production time are 0)

Process time = 1.1

Inspection time = 0

Move time = 0.6

Queue time = 0

Hence, calculating metrics using above mentioned formulae:

Throughput time = 1.1 + 0 + 0.6 + 0 = 1.7

MCE = 1.1/1.7 = 0.647 = 0.6(rounding to one decimal place)
