Solutions

Expert Solution

The majority of metal processing start with casting processes. It is one of the widely used material processing technique.

Wrought: When material processing is done, some amount of alloying elements are added to it. In wrought products, the amount of alloying elements are very less. Hence the wrought products are very ductile. Wrought means hot or cold working in the metal.

Cast: In cast products, the amount of alloying elements that are added to the base metal is more. It is used to get some desired property in the product. For example, the silicon content in aluminium casting (4 series) is more when compared with the wrought aluminium.

Disamatic casting:

It is used for mass production and is mainly automated in the production line. The disamtic consist of a moulding machine. The green sand mould is manufactured in this disamatic and is then sent for the casting process. During the mass produciton, it is very difficult to produce the sand cast mould, hence to overcome this difficulty disamatics system is used to produce the sand mould.

In traditional sand casting, the mould is done with the help of cope and drag by hand along with the pattern. After the casting, the same sand material is used again for further production of the castings. Whereas, in disamtic process, to achevie more produciton rate, we need to make more number of sand mould and continuos casting can be done.
