Think about the microscopic, histological physical traits that are unique to cardiac muscle. In complete sentences, explain how these microscopic, histological physical traits are a reflection of the functions of the cardiac muscle tissue.

Solutions

Expert Solution

  • There are mainly 3 type of muscles, skeletal muscles, smooth muscle and cardiac muscle.
  • Cardiac muscle tissue get its strength and flexibilty from its interconnected cardiac cells.
  • Cradiac muscle is striated or striped in appearance under microscope, these alternating filaments are due to actin and myosin proteins. Dark filament  is due to myosin and light filament  is due to actin.
  • Intercalated disc connect between each cardiac cells. Gap junction inside the intercalated discs relay electrical impulses from one muscle cell to another.
  • Cardiac muscles are branched.
  • Most of the cardiac muscle contain single nuclues, but some have two nucleus . Nucleus is the place where all genetic material are placed.
  • Desmosomes are specialized structure present within cardiac cells, which help in holding of cardiac fibres together.
  • A single myosin is connected with 2 actin filament. This forms a single unit of muscle tissue called sarcomere.
  • cardiac muscles are involuntary.
