Part 3A 2-Pentene and 3 methyl 1-butene area)conformers b) constitutional isomers C)geometric isomer D) not isomers

Part 3B 3 methyl 2-butene and 2 methyl butane area)conformers b) constitutional isomers C)geometric isomer D) not isomers

Solutions

Expert Solution

Part 3A = b) constitutional isomers

------------------------------------------------

Both 2-Pentene and 3-methyl 1-butene has same molecular formula (C5H10) so they are isomers, and but they have structural formula (different connectivity between atoms), they are constitutional isomer. Geometric isomers will have same connectivity between atoms.

Part 3B = d) not isomers

-----------------------------------

3-methyl 2-butene and 2-methyl butane have different molecular formula C5H10 and C5H12 respectively, so they are not isomers. All types of isomers will have same molecular formula.

Info: Conformers are isomers with same bond connections, but differ in the spatial arrangement of the atoms due to rotations in the single bonds.
