The health of college students is monitored by periodically weighing them in. A sample of 32 students has a mean weight of 145.9 lb. Assuming that the population standard deviation is known to be 81.2 lb., use a 0.10 significance level to test the claim that the population mean of all such students weights is different than 150 lb. WHAT ARE THE STEPS ON STATCRUNCH?
First we need to decide which test to use.
Since we have population standard deviation is given hence we need to use z-test.
Go to with summary like this:
Stat -->Z Stats --> One sample --> With summary
Enter data like this:
Then click on Compute:
Now, see the p-value and compare it to given level of significance.
If p-value is greater than level of significance then we fail to reject null hypothesis.
Here p-value = 0.7752 > 0.1, so we fail to reject null hypothesis.
So, we don't have sufficient evidence to support the claim that all population mean of all such students weights is different than 150 lb.
I hope this will help. Thank you.
