HL7 Electronic Health Record-System (EHR-S) Functional Model (FM), Release 1 :
Description :
The HL7 International EHR System Functional Model (EHR-S FM) specifies important features and functions that should be contained in an EHR system. Through the creation of functional profiles, this model provides a standard description and common understanding of functions for healthcare settings. Until now , HL7 has developed or is developing profiles for areas such as emergency care, child health, long term care, behavioral health and vital statistic reporting.
Targets :
EHR system purchasers, vendors and system integrators.
Providers of care and users of EHR-S who depend on a definable set of functions to meet the IT needs of their organizations.
Benefits :
Promote a common understanding of EHR functions upon which developers, vendors, users and other interested parties can plan and evaluate EHR-S functions.
Easily describing end user defined benefits such as quality outcomes, patient safety and cost efficiencies in terms of standard HER-S function.
Provides the essential framework to drive the requirements and applications of next level standards such as coding, information models, EHR contents.
Set up standard based method by which each country can apply these EHR functions to care settings, uses and priorities.
Inform those concerned with secondary use of EHR data and national infrastructure what functions can be expected in an EHR System.
Responsible work group :
Electronic Health Records
The goal of the HL7 Electronic Health Record (EHR) Work Group is to support the HL7 mission of developing standards for EHR data, information, functionality, and interoperability.
The EHR Work Group recognizes that certain artifacts, such as messages and documents that fulfill specified functional requirements, may fall within the scope of other Work Groups. Therefore, the EHR Work Group will collaborate with other Work Groups to produce the appropriate standards.
