Monsoon rains in India and in the North American Southwest are both caused by the land heating faster than the water, which causes moisture to be drawn over the land from neighboring bodies of water.
True
False
The answer is TRUE.
Explaination: In case of India, due to intense sun's heat falling on Tropic of Capricorn mainly in May and June, a low pressure region is created which is also referred as Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). In order to fill this void in the sub-continent, moisture laden winds arises from the Indian Ocean. The shift in the position of ITCZ causes the monsoon rains in India.
In case of North America, during the month of June high pressure develops over Mexico which rotates clockwise in the northern hemisphere and forms dry sinks in the atmosphere. More the number of sinks formed, higher will be the pressure and more intense the heat will be generated. This high pressure shifts towards the desert and Southern California. This causes pulling up of moisture from Gulf of California and Gulf of Mexico that leads to increment in moisture in Southwest, which ultimately bring monsoon shower.
