listing the five greatest advances in the field of immunology in the last 40 years. Of course, this is a matter of opinion (to a reasonable extent), Be sure to include reasons for selecting the options you chose.

Expert Solution

The five greatest advances in the field of immunology in the last 40 years are:

1. Severe combined immunodeficiency disease was a genetic disorder where there is very less chances of survival of the baby. In 1990 gene therapy for SCID was found out which was a major breakthrough and helped in saving lot many lives.

2. HIV is a dreaded disease and there has been no cure or medicine found out so far. Recent researchers have discovered mechanisms of resistance to HIV infection. They have identified the cellular receptors used by HIV for infusing target cells. The natural ligand is capable of blocking HIV transmission in vitro.

3. The vaccine for hepatitis B was produced by genetic engineering and human papilomavirus vaccine was also developed.

4. Through research there has been a greater understanding of the role of lymphocytes in allergy, autoimmunity and infection.

5. Next dreaded disease is cancer. Its very difiicult to curb the indefinite multiplication of cells in cancer. But after intense research several immune checkpoint inhibitors were created which could be used for the treatment of melanoma, bladder cancer, prostate cancer etc. This is not an ultimate solution for the disease, but it can increase the life expectancy by several months

Attachment A Amana Ltd was facing its first loss since listing five years ago and the chairperson of the board of directors/CEO was not about to let that happen. His bonus was tied to reported earnings. He owes shares in the company and knows the psychological impact of a first-time loss will hit his company’s share price. He asked staff who were also affected by the bonus rules to turn the loss to a small profit by the following methods:...

You wish to have $200,000 at the end of twenty years. In the last five years, you withdraw $1,000 annually at a rate of 3.8% compounded quarterly. During the middle ten years, you contribute $500 monthly at a rate of 2.8% compounded semi-annually. Given this information, determine the initial deposit that has to be made at the start of the first five years at a rate of 4% compounded monthly.

Rapid advances in the field of molecular and cellular biology have unwillingly unleashed the potential for creating viruses and bacteria more virulent than nature's worst. In the summer of 2002, Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook described the first de novo biochemical synthesis of a virus, based on published gene sequence information and using "off the shelf" commercially available DNA material. After they pieced together genetic sequences to form a full-length poliovirus, they successfully replicated...
