Name and describe the 7 layout strategies and give an example of each one
The 7 layout strategies are as follows:
Office layout: Office layout strategies are build around the key concern of information flow that is the strategic design of layout that makes employees and other managerial people to work comfortably, have spacious place and connect easily with people with having personal space . The best example is the TATA Consultancy service offices where they have made sure the comfortibilty of the employees along with strategically placing important department head office so that there is easy information flow.
Retail layout : The main focuss here is to have maximum exposure of products to customers and that has to be done by best managing the floor area of retail or shop or restaurant whereby the every floor area is used to give the profit. the best example is D Mart in India, a retail shop that gives customer exposure to each product properly and customer end up buying a lot than expected.
Warehouse layout: The best example is Amazon that has utilized it warehouse in the best way possible. It has created layout in its ware house where it strategically mananges a lot of product for various purpose and it save it a lot of money. Ware house layout strategies give the design solution for arranging their space to make maximum utilization.
Fixed-position layout: projects remain fixed in a place and workers come and go and different matrials are brought for completion of projects at different stage of product development. the best example would be ships.
Process-oriented layout: Arranging the place of work so that the materials are moved faster and convinently.Example would be multispeciality hospitals where many eqipments are placed at strategical locations so movement of things becomes comfortable.
Work-cell layout: This layout strategy focus on arrangement among people and machine tso that they together focuss on products. this saves the space as well.
Product-oriented layout: This is best suited when high production is required as in these strategy emphasis on series of steps wherin the final products comes to the end and involves people at different stage of its making.
The example would be MC Donald processing of food where after passing through various stages at certain interval of time it reaches the heating pad.
