Answer to Question 1.)

Part A.) The Most populous country in the world is China, with a population around 1.5 billion. United States comes in at the 3rd most populous country, so let us assume that it has roughly 1/3rd the population of China. This gives us a rough estimate of the population to be 500 million people.

Part B.) Assume that each person has a mobile phone, which is a fairly reasonable assumption. This leads to an estimate of 500 million mobile phones.

Part C.) The standard mobile phone measures roughly 15 cms (length of a small ruler) tall, and has a 16:9 aspect ratio thus giving a width of cms

This gives an area of 0.01275 meter sq per phone.

Part D.) Thus, we will have the net area to be:

Area = area per phone * number of phones = 6375000 sq. meters

Now, since we still want to have a 16:9 aspect ratio, we have:

(16y)*(9y) = 6375000 y 210 m

Thus the height of our giant mobile phone is 16*y = 3360 m and the width is 9*y = 1890 m

Waterways is considering mass-producing one of its special-order screens. This would increase variable costs for all screens by an average of $0.64 per unit. The company also estimates that this change could increase the overall number of screens sold by 10%, and the average sales price would increase by $0.23 per unit. Waterways currently sells 443,000 screen units at an average selling price of $26.00. The manufacturing costs are $6,177,000 variable and $1,845,130 fixed. Selling and administrative costs are $2,417,200...
