For each of the characters described below, what types of informative speeches (Definitional Speeches, Descriptive Speeches, Explanatory Speeches and Demonstration Speeches) might each person be called upon to give in her or his personal and professional life? List 4 examples for each.
A. Stacy is an emergency room physician and medical school professor. She also serves on the board of directors for a local college. For recreation she enjoys rock climbing.
B. Rick is an animal control officer who volunteers his time at both the animal shelter and the local Habitat for Humanity group. He is in a bowling league with other city employees.
C. Akiko is in insurance sales and volunteers in the math classroom at her children’s middle school. As a hobby, she collects and sells antiques
A. Stacy may be called to give to write a definiitonal speech for her college bulletin as a faculty determining the specific terminology for the educating people about a new epidemic or communicable disease illness. Moreover, as a health professional in the hospital, she may be expected to explain the causes of an illness or provide the specific details of the treatment procedure to be carried out by her and the staff to the patient and his/her attendees and she would thus make an explanatory speech. In light of her personal life as an avid rock climber, she may be asked to describe herself and her hobby in an interview for a student editorial column in her college. In this case, she would be using descriptive speech. Fourthly, as a professor in a medical college, she may need to present a particular case and perform certain operations to explain the procedure to her class. In this capacity, she would rely on making a demonstration speech.
