Cancer may happen due to damaged DNA or it can be inherited from parents.
Tumors are caused by mutations which are alterations in the DNA sequence of a cell. These modifications alter normal cellular programs. Most cancer is sporadic/happening by chance or they can be hereditary. About 10% of cancer is hereditary. Hereditary cancer can happen when someone has a mutation which has a spelling error in a gene whose job it is to protect the body from cancer. In these people the gene may no longer work as it should, and this can cause someone have an increased chance of developing certain cancers.
People that inherit the mutation will have an increased cancer risk since they already have the first mutation. Thats why we call this type of mutations as hereditary mutations
