HOW DO I FIND THEORETICAL DISTRIBUTION if I have information from my collected data?

HOW DO I FIND THEORETICAL DISTRIBUTION if I have information from my collected data?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The first we have to make sure that our data are of random type, i.e., they possess the property of statistical stability. If the property of statistical stability is not violated, with out hesitate use the methods of the probability theory.

We find the theoretical distribution of any given data by using the  Distribution Tests. In this case Distribution tests are hypothesis tests that determine whether your sample data were drawn from a population that follows a hypothesized probability distribution.

In this case we select the hypothesis as follows --

  • H0: The sample data follow the hypothesized distribution.
  • H1: The sample data do not follow the hypothesized distribution.

After applying the test we conclude that for distribution tests, small p-values indicate that you can reject the null hypothesis and conclude that your data were not drawn from a population with the specified distribution.

Given: Assume you have collected data from 150 subjects, and that the distribution of the data is a "normal" distribution. The mean of the scores is 37, with a standard deviation of 4.5. Using the given information, calculate the 68% confidence interval. A confidence interval represents a range of values, the lowest value is references as the "lower bound", the highest value is referenced as the "upper bound". Determine the lower and upper bounds for the 68% confidence interval. Round...

Data collected from a local high school found that 18% of the students do not have internet access at home, which puts these students at a disadvantage academically. One teacher felt this estimate was too low and decided to test if the true percentage of students without home internet access was greater than the data suggested. To do this, she sampled 200 students. In her sample, 25% of the students did not have internet access at home. If the significance...
