A 5.5 F capacitor is charged to 35 V and is then connected across a 12-mH inductor. (a) How much energy is stored in the system? J (b) What is the frequency of oscillation of the circuit? Hz [3.33 points] (c) What is the maximum current in the circuit? A

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given that the capacitance of capacitor is C = 5.5*10^-6 F

Potential difference is ΔV = 35V

Inductance is L = 12 mH

                        = 12*10^-3 H

(a) Energy stored in the system is

                U = (1/2)C*ΔV^2

U=0.5*5.5*10^-6*35^2

U = 3.37 mJ

(b) Frequency of oscillation is f = 1 / 2π square root (LC)

f=1/(2*3.14 square root (12*10^-3*5.5*10^-6))

                                               = 619.96 Hz

(c)    The maximum current is Imax = CΔV/ square root (LC )

=5.5*10^-6*35/ square root (12*10^-3*5.5*10^-6)

                                                     = 0.75 A

I hope help you.
