A increase in the share of part-time employment (currently around 30 per cent of total employment) should have the same impact on the average weekly hours per worker as an increase in the employment-to-population ratio (holding real GDP constant).
Now-a-days in this pandemic situation , Job is very necesaary to everyone due to the dastric decrease in economy . In ths situation part-time jobs are more common in sectors that are less sensitive to the business cycle , so that recessionary changes in the sectoral composition of employment explain the increase in part-time employment . Because the part-time workers are more likely than the unemployed to return quickly to full-time hours , the effects of part-time work on expenditure are much lower . In this pandemic (COVID-19) , the workers can not find a full-time job , so the part-time employment increase in recession .
The employment-to-population ratio is a macroeconomic statics . It measures the civilian labour force currently employed against the total working age population of a region or country .
Employment-to-population = The number of employeed people / Total number of working age
The employment-to-population ratio is not as affected by seasonal variations or short term variation in the labour market . And also the historical relationship implies that if the employment-to-population ratio is constant , the unemployment rate will be roughly constant . During the recent recession , the observed decrease in GDP(Gross domestic product) corresponded to a higher increase in the unemployment rate . Short and long term economic trends can ascendancy the labour force participation rate . The changes in the working age population from generation to the generation ascendancy labor force participation as well .
