Use ONLY the Standard Normal Tables to answer the following... Suppose you know that the probability, P ( z > x ) = 0.0028 . What is the value of x ? Answer =______________ (round to four decimal places) Note: Be careful...only use the Z Table...do not use technology or the 68-95-99.7 Rule.
Solution:
Find x value using the Standard Normal Table, such that:
P( z > x ) = 0.0028
We use following steps:
P( z < x ) = 1 - P( z > x )
P( z < x ) = 1 - 0.0028
P( z < x ) = 0.9972
Look in z table for Area = 0.9972 or its closest area and find corresponding value.
Area 0.9972 corresponds to 2.7 and 0.07
that is x = 2.77
Thus required answer for x = 2.77
