Difference between regioselectivity, stereoselectivity, and stereospecifity?
Rigioselective: Reaction occurs specifically at one functional group over the other.
Example: reaction of ethylacetoacetate with NaBH4, onyl ketone gets reduced to alcohol without affecting the ester. Hence regioselective.
Stereospecific Reaction: attack of reagent on reactant is fixed.
Example, halogenation of Alkene, Halogen atoms will add across the double bond from opposite side, called anti addition.
Addition of H2 to alkene is always syn addition
That means both H atoms adds from same side.
Stereoselective: it discuss about the foemaform of one product exclusively over the other.
Expample, reduction of alkyne by Lindlars catalyst gives Cis alkene exclusively over trans alkene.
