How does changing the electronegativity of the atoms affect the bond character?

How does changing the electronegativity of the atoms affect the bond character?

Solutions

Expert Solution

With the increase of electronegativity of atom different Bond character are change like bond energy Bond length Bond nature and bond angle

1- with the increase of electronegativity ionic character of atom increases. If atom not attached with the same atom.

2_ with the increase of electronegativity bond energy increases and the bond length decreases

3_ with the increase of electronegativity the bond angle between two Bond increases. Example - bond angle of ammonia is 107 while phosphine is about 93 degree because Phosphorus has less electronegative than nitrogen

4- as the electronegativity of atom increases. Stability of its Negative Ion increases example_ Cl- is more stable than S2-.

With the increase of electronegativity of central atom acidic character of molecule increases. Rule is not applicable in group only applicable in period.
