An experiment was performed to see whether sensory deprivation over an extended period of time has any effect on the alpha-wave patterns produced by the brain. To determine this, 20 subjects, inmates in a Canadian prison, were randomly split into two groups. Members of one group were placed in solitary confinement. Those in the other group were allowed to remain in their own cells. Seven days later, alpha-wave frequencies were measured for all subjects, as shown in the following table.

A) What are the null and alternative hypotheses? Be sure to define all the terms and symbols you use

B) Are the assumptions necessary for inference met?

C) Perform the appropriate test, indicating the formula you used, the calculated value fo the test statistic, the df, and the P-value

D) State your conclusion

According to a study performed over a -year time period and reported in the Annals of Surgery, 151 patients with malignant melanoma were treated with BCG immunotherapy (NB. BCG is a weakened but live strain of Mycobacterium bovis used as part of the "childhood vaccination regime in European countries", but not in the US.) alone or as an adjunct to surgical therapy. One finding in these studies was that direct injection of metastatic melanoma lesions limited to the skin resulted...

An animal psychologist wanted to determine whether fish can remember things over a period of time. Fifty goldfish were randomly assigned to one of two groups- Group A and Group B.   Group A was placed in a trap, inside their tank, and food was placed outside the trap (to motivate the fish to want to get out of the trap). On the average, it took 45 minutes for the fish to figure out how to escape the trap. Group B...

Over a period of 12 months, the new water purifier is tested to see if the quality if improved by testing the quality of water. The purity is measured on scale of 0-5 and the results are measured, and the matched differences are computed. The sample mean(difference) is 0.52 with a sample standard deviation of 0.34. Test the claim that the new purifier is no different to the old one at 10% level of significance. a.Details given in problem b.Assumptions...
