The intellectual property rights act was first introduced in Bangladesh in 1883 but after lots of changes and development with merging of two offices the administration came with a new ordinance. Now globalization is the updated Bangladesh is a legal member of WIPO world intellectual property organisation. The intellectual property law is governed by DPDT under ministry of industries by and Ministry of cultural affairs.it also is a signatory of trade related aspect of intellectual property rights- TRIPS
Patent and industrial design are valid for 16 years under patent and design rules of 1933. For registration under patents and industrial design act 1911 the design must have some conditions like it should be 3 dimensional, should be free from purely functional design. Shouldn't be contrary to public. Trade mark registration needs to have a registration by application and it undergo two compliance with the law and distinctiveness. The trade mark registration, refusals are processed as per trade mark act 2009 and trade mark rules in 2015.
Copyright protection is dependent of copyright act 2000 when was ammended in 2005 and copyright rules in 2010
