The construction industry is leveraging technology to make processes more efficient. Construction companies are investing a lot of their capital in R&D to incorporate this technology into their business practices. Explore one technology (existing or future) and provide a summary of the impacts it will have on the construction industry. Below are examples you may choose from but preferably you can find a different technology if you can find one.
Examples of technology (application, software, programs):
Please write a summary of the technology and should answer the following questions:
1) Company name and how long has this application/program been around?
2) What impacts does it have on the construction process (good and bad)
3) What the future looks like for these type of technology
4) your opinion on how you would implement or what improvement you see in this type of technology.
Answer: Technology : Concrete CO2
1)Company Name : CARBONCURE
Application/program : Since 2016.
2) Impacts on construction process: (GOOD)
Concrete emits loads of Co2 in atmosphere as its main ingredient Cement has a huge trace of carbon.Cement is the glue that makes concrete strong, but the process of making cement requires superheating calcium carbonate, or limestone, and releases massive amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.Cement is responsible for 7% of global man-made greenhouse emissions, making it the world's second largest industrial source of carbon dioxide. The global cement production was responsible for about 4 billion pounds of CO2 emissions in 2017 alone. CarbonCure's system takes captured CO2 and injects it into concrete as it's being mixed. Once the concrete hardens, that carbon is sequestered forever. Even if the building is torn down, the carbon stays put. That's because it reacts with the concrete and becomes a mineral. CarbonCure's technology utilizes CO2 that would otherwise be a waste product from factories. Finding uses for captured CO2 is an economically-friendly way of incentivizing companies to capture their emissions.
3) What the future looks like for these type of technology ?
In coming future if this technology is adopted by different countries of the world, the emission of CO2 will decrease significantly resulting the less global warming.
4) Opinion : As the technology is new. It is to be first tested properly on small scale before letting it out in the global market. It is being tested in some places in Canada and the results are satisfactory till now so everyone is very positive about vasting and expanding its usage throughout the country and then throughout the world. Another this is its awareness. Not a lot of people are aware of this tech. Hence it is important to let people know about it and its advantages over normal concrete.
