Describe how the geometric growth model is different from the exponential growth model. For each growth model, give an example of an organism that fits the growth pattern it describes. Explain why the organism fits the model.
Exponential growth starts slow then picks up as the population increases while geometric growth starts rapidly, then slows down after reaching the carrying capacity.
The growth curve of exponential populations is smooth and becomes increasingly steeper over time. While tn geometric model a population grows as a series of increasingly steep steps rather than as a smooth curve.
Human populations, in which individuals live and reproduce for many years and in which reproduction is distributed throughout the year, grow exponentially.
Plants that live for a single year and reproduce once before dying are examples of organisms whose growth is geometric.
