A friend sends you this P&G Mother’s Day advertisement arguing that it is a beautiful tribute to mothers. Email your friend a response using Hochschild’s concept of the second shift and Slaughter’s argument that women can’t “have it all” to demonstrate the gender inequalities that this advertisement is perpetuating.
The response should include:
Though P&G s Mother's Day ad is a beautiful tribute to mothers but it's incomplete, it's not a true tribute to all Mothers . It's pushing back motherhood to the traditional role of just a caregiver. This advertisement is not portraying the those mothers who work hard to meet the both the ends, the mother who is not only taking care of her family but also is looking after the financial and economic needs of her family. The mother who faces discrimination at workplace and pays with her promotions and increments for looking after her family, this sacrifice of mother is not depicted in the ad.Isn't motherhood more respectful and more dignified than that's shown in the ad,and isn't the women deserve much more respect effort for all her sacrifice both at workplace and home. And isn't it time to change our mindset and free women from the bondage of gender roles and that she may have equal participation both at home and workplace. The ad would be had been a true tribute if it hadn't forgot those mothers at workplace.
