Psychology as a study of mind and behavior covers multitude of interactions in varying contexts and different factors that shape human behavior and influence one's daily actions and reactions. As such, the field of psychology intersects with other disciplines which utilize their unique approaches towards human behavior, functioning and overall well-being. Examples of these disciplines include biology, economics, anthropology, law, psychiatry, and sociology. Bridging the divide between psychology and each of these disciplines has given rise to joint interdisciplinary approaches that help empower the experts to take on more complex problems of human life and thus countless people are better served as a result. This is illustrated by couple of examples mentioned ahead:
Biopsychology and related neuroscience fileds: The interest to understand the animal as well as human behavior is quite old as deeper understanding of this behavior can improve the life and society. Understanding the connection between the behavior and body especially brain by employing traditional methods and now by introducing cutting edge technology has benefitted countless people who were facing long term mental issues or temporary psychological problems. The result is better prevention and treatment of mental, behavioral and psychological problems and promotion of health. The collobrations have given rise to numerous subfiels; neuropsychology, physiological psychology, behavioral neurocience and behavioral genetics just to name only few.
Psychology and Law: Psychological principles are increasingly being applied to legal issues to make contribution to justice delivary. The interdiscipilinary efforts have tried to encompass both areas of research and practice. Contributions include in areas like deciphering criminal behavior, working in court systems, understanding child abuse & inter-partner voilence and examining suspects' mental competence. The colloboration covers fields like forensic psychology and legal psychology.
Psychologists can colloborate with disciplines like biology, sociology, economics, anthropology, law and others to tackle complex problems that require knowledge and expertise from multiple fields.
