20 global fashion brands were investigated and "the toxic trail of clothes" was discussed. "This study has demonstrated the presence of a number of different hazardous chemicals within a broad range of textile products, either incorporated deliberately within the materials of the product or as unwanted residues remaining from their use during the manufacturing process." Yet if we look at "What the Brands Say"all feel they are at their ethical best. How can this be so?
In the majority of the countries where garments are manufactured or produced using hazardous chemicals and toxins either deliberately or indirectly because these toxins are part of the manufacturing process. These chemicals are directly dumped into the rivers, lakes, and ponds.
The wastewater from the textile industry contains many toxic and carcinogenic substances such as lead, mercury, arsenic, sulfur, etc. These chemicals are extremely hazardous and harmful to both marine life and millions of people around the world.
Most of the textile companies are directly damaging the environments and causing many ethical issues as well. However, they are using their money and links to mold the laws and regulations. That is why they might show that they are doing their best and in the most ethical ways but in reality the majority of textile companies are unethical and directly damaging the environment.
These are some serious issues caused by the textile industry:
Animal cruelty, Child labor, Degradation of the environment, Deforestation, Exploitation fo workers, Low wages, Safety and health hazards.
