Perform an internet search to locate news articles on some of the issues today concerning nursing homes in San Antonio. Write a 2 page, double spaced paper (Minimum pages 2; it can be longer of course) stating what you have discovered from your research is a major issue within this vulnerable community and possible ways to transform/change the problem. Then address your social obligation and ways you might personally contribute to the common good in this community in other ways than the Adopt a Nursing Home service. And finally, reflect on what you have learned about advancing justice.

MAJOR CONCERNING ISSUES IN NURSING HOME OF SAN ANTONIA:

* SHORT OF PPE : According to research,  One in five U.S. nursing homes faced severe shortages of protective gear like N95 masks this summer even as the Trump administration pledged to help, according to a study released Thursday that finds facilities in areas hard-hit by COVID-19 also struggled to keep staff.

* SHORTAGE OF STAFF : Due to virus is rebounding there is shortage in adequate number of staff. Significantly, there was no improvement from May to July in the shortages of in the staffing shortfalls, according to the analysis of federal data by academic researchers. The summer has seen the coronavirus surge across the South, and much of the West and Midwest.

* LARGE OUTBREAK AND DEATH: Large outbreaks in nursing homes have been reported in many states. People living in long-term care facilities represent less than 1% of the U.S. population but account for 43% of coronavirus deaths, according to the COVID Tracking Project.

LOW WAGES FOR STAFF: nursing home pay is low, and with COVID-19, health risks to workers are high. Staff  are putting themselves and their families at risk, with very minimum wage.

POSSIBLE WAYS TO BRING CHANGE:

* RAISE FUNDS: A nursing home deep on San Antonio’s South Side should have received federal bailout funds meant to go to medical providers serving on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

* SOLVE SAFETY PROBLMENS: government should provide the adequate safety resources suc as PPE N95 mask. government should also raises the wages of front line warriers who put their lives at risk of death in midst of this pandemic.

* FACILITY OF ACCOMMODATION : Government should make a plan to decrease the spread of disease via health workers to community therefore they should provide proper place to accomodate where less chances of getting infection.

* SANITIZING AT FREQUENT INTERVAL: Sanitization of all the public area can be helpful for nursing homes. Less hospitalization, less burden and vacant beds for the needy one can be possible if safety precautions keep in mind. Hospitalization of needy one only and people with mild symptoms should be quarantined at home.

* MAPPING OF CASES: Mapping each case can be helpful to know about all the carrier of onfection and investigation should be done properly in nursng homes so that each and every case is repoted to authority.

* EASES RESTRICTION ON NURSING PRACTITIONERS: Like as Texas has signed into law legislation that removes some red tape that will help people have better access to care provided by advanced practice registered nurses similarly this has to be applied in all nursing homes.

* USE OF NURSING SCHOOLS: Nursing students can be useful in community. All nursing schools playing substantial roles in population health partnerships that would involve the majority of their faculty and students. The nursing workforce, provide human resources for contact tracing and outreach, and provide assistance with training and evaluation.

PERSONAL WAYS TO PUT GOOD IN COMMUNITY :

* NURSING CAMPAIGNS : Webinar, education program should be held to improve nursing home issues and help in putting something good in community. Training to the community about safety measures also can be helpful.

This research helped me in gaining about the Latest issues and concerns in the nursing home of San Antonia, also this gave me an idea about how the government and an individual can put efforts in improving the community.
