What are two reasons why the discovery of the Australopithecus sediba species is important to our understanding of hominid evolution.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer) Australopithecus sediba, is nearly two-million-year-old relative from South Africa. these fossils led to many discoveries in paleoanthropology and have also fille cruicial gaps in scientists understanding human origin and irs evolution. reasons, why the discovery of the Australopithecus sediba species is important to our understanding of hominid evolution are;
--> after studing about this fossil researchers found that the brain, pelvis, hands and feet of Australopithecus sediba, a primitive hominin that existed around the same time early Homo species first began to appear on Earth.
Australopithecus sediba displayed both primitive characteristics as well as more modern, human-like traits. hence it is the best candidate for an ancestor to the Homo genus.

--> researchers found many similarities betweenAustralopithecus sediba species and hominid. They also found evidences which suggests that they wre tool maker also. They had bipedal locomotion.The ankle joint is largely like a human's. they also had long fingers for grasping branches or for use in locomotion, and thus relatively short thumbs that make it very difficult for them to grasp like a human."

For these reasons this fosil is important

1- discuss the major anatomical differences between two separate species of early hominins from the Australopithecus genus. Compare and contrast the various anatomical and behavioral characteristics of the species you selected. Once you have done this, which of these two species is a more likely candidate as a direct ancestor to Anatomically Modern Humans? 2- identify three specific variables that YOU think drove early Hominin evolution. These variables can be related to anatomy but remember—behaviors are the precedent prior to...
