Discuss the differences between family as a client and family as a system?
What are the traditional family functions performed over history that still exist today?
Why do some family functions still hold meaning even in modern times?
Family plays an important part and has many functions such as
emotional, financial, healthcare and support.
Family as a client and family as a system are two approaches to the
family nursing. In family as a client the focus is on whole family
rather than individual and describes how health issue of one
individual affects the whole family. On the other hand family as a
system focuses on the family as a client. It may sometime focus on
the individual and the family. It is based upon the interactions
between different members of the family.
Some of the important functions are finacial support which is
earning money and supporting the family, reproduction and raising
the children to be part of society, providing emotional sense and
identity to family members, caring for each other in times of
health issues.
I feel each and every function stated above still exists and is
important to provide mental, physical and financial support and
strength to the family members.
