If a child or animal ingests these rodenticides, would you expect to see normal clotting time, prolonged clotting time, or faster clotting time? Explain
Option B-prolonged clotting time
Rodenticides are the pesticides that are used to kill rodentslike mice and rats. These rodenticides are formulated as baits with substances like peanut butter that are attractive to rats,so that the rodents inject these substance.
Mechanism of Acton:It is different for different classes of rodenticides used.
The action of anticoagulants that are used as rodenticides is that they Inhibit epoxide reductase(the enzyme which reduces vitamin K after it has been oxidised during carboxylation of glutamic acid residues during blood coagulation .This leads to a loss of vitamin K regeneration.
This leads to decrease in vitamin K,-------- inhibition of coagulation synthesis-----vitamin K dependent clotting factors [ II, VII, IX, and X] are reduced-----Increased Clotting time.
[Clotting factors are essential for clotting,so depleation in clotting factors leads to Increased Clotting time]
