Mr and Mrs. McDonald believe in the importance of stern discipline, they impose strict rules which they expect their children to obey without question. They penalized misbehavior harshly, frequently with a spanking. Mr and Mrs. Reynolds use milder forms of punishment to enforce their rules. They also have regular family meetings in which their children help them to establish household rules and penalties for breaking them. what are their parenting styles? what do you see as the advantage and disadvantages of these two disadvantages of these two disciplinary approaches? Mrs. and Mr. McDonald's have authoritarian type of parenting style. They are very strict about the rules that even the slightest of misbehavior is punished by spanking. They have high expectations that are accomplished through being strict and very stern, children in such parenting style do not have chance for their say. Its is a one way channel of communication where the children are always expected to be well behaved and they are not given any chance of expressing their concerns, clarification or feelings.

  • Advantages; The children under such parenting style grew up be well disciplined,they keep rules and regulations very well throughout their life.
  • Disadvantages: Because of harsh punishment, very strict disciplining , and the lack of proper communication in the parent child relationship,the children develop low self esteem and are hostile/aggressive in behavior .

Mrs. and Mr. Reynolds have a authoritative type of parenting style.This parenting style also stresses on the importance of discipline but with milder forms of punishment,also there's a positive communication and relationship between the parents and chidren. Children have freedom to give their opinions and reasons. This type of parenting style develops well disciplined individuals with good decision making ability and good self esteem.This is considered as a good parenting style as it gives equal importance to both disciplines and personal expression of children while disciplining of, thus developing a balanced personality.
