6) What is biodiversity? What are the components of biodiversity? Why do we need to preserve biodiversity (give three reasons and argument your choices)?
Answer:
Biodiversity: This term refers to biological diversity. It includes from micro-organism to humans. It encompasses genes to the eco-system. And it also involves ecological to cultural processes. It has importance in many aspects of life. We get basic needs from biodiversity. It shapes our relationship and social meaningful life.
There are three major components of biodiversity.
1.Ecosystem- It is an ecological process in the biosphere. It includes biotic communities like water, trees, plants, and different habitats. It is a conjunction of biotic and abiotic components
2. Species-It refers to different types and numbers of species at a Place.
3. Genetic-It comprises a gene of an individual of plants, animals, and micro-organisms.
Bio-diversity preservation:
Bio-diversity is key for human life and another habitat. We can't function without bio-diversity. Organisms and eco-system are dependent on each other. It is important for food, health and fuel. It is important source of our basic requirement. It provides water and oxygen. So we must preserve it otherwise there will be a danger for human life.
There are different reasons to preserve biodiversity.
1. Ecological balance - Ecosystem serves human and all other inhabitants provide basic needs like food, shelter, and other functions. They play an important role in the recycling of nutrients. It helps in maintaining the balance between oxygen and Carbon dioxide. It also helps in the biochemical cycle like Water hydrological cycle.
2. Economic growth- Bio-diversity plays a key role in economy growth. Human gets many elements like food, construction material, fuel, oil, coal, etc from the environment. We must understand the cycle of the replenishment of natural resources.
3. Leverage the other ecosystem globally- Bio-diversity plays an important role in the conservation of the environment. For example, the Amazon forest helps in providing oxygen of 20% of the overall requirement. Another ecosystem like river, ponds, streams and grassland will be protected through maintaining the bio-diversity.
