I would like to know what is controlled substance and how should it be wasted? and what is the plan of care for a patient with neuropathic pain? Thank you.

Drugs or medication forms a key role in the healthcare sector to treat a patient for their medical conditions.When these drugs are used under great caution and control it is called as controlled substance. The reason to term this has controlled substance is because of its risk for addiction or abuse .If it is not medically supervised the risk for addiction is higher which can cause severe fatalities.

It should be used only under providers prescription and medical guidance. Generally these drugs are disposed as per the hospital policy and laws.

The plan of care for neuropathic pain are

• Assess the level of pain ,to get basic details and plan for care
• Provide diversional therapy to the patient
• Soothing music, massages can help the patient to relax
• Provide an optimistic approach so that patient feels the confidence to come out of the pain by alternative method
• Health educate about the effects of long term use of medication and its adverse reactions.This can help the patient to avoid unnecessary medication and prevent addiction and abuse.
