The expectations you have of your sources to be reliable, trustworthy, and accurate also apply to you. As a graduate student beginning to contribute to an ongoing scholarly discussion in your field, you are expected to both adhere to conventions for using sources (citing them correctly) and to integrate them into you own work in an ethical manner. For example, ethical researchers avoid downplaying important facts or quoting sources out of context to bolster their own arguments. Consider that, as part of becoming a graduate scholar in your field, you too may be becoming a "source" that others will rely on for accurate, trustworthy, and timely information. Discuss your obligations as a graduate student transitioning to a scholar in your field. What ethical obligations do you have as a master's-prepared researcher and scholar in your field, and what strategies can you apply to encourage others to be ethical as well?
Obligations of a graduate student transitioning into a scholar:
The process of change from one state, style, position or form to another is called transition. Academically transition is the professional educational assistance for students or adults in the process of leaving one educational environment or support programme for another to relatively more independent living. Nursing is a profession with ethics and is required a sound body of knowledge for its members. There is Master's programme offered for the Graduate students to become scholars in their field. Obligations of graduate students transitioning into scholars:
* Keep the ultimate goals of Nursing profession in the mind;
- to promote health
- to prevent illness
- to alleviate the suffering or cure the disease
- to facilitate peaceful death, where it is inevitable .
* Have a willingness to educate the student nurses, update the knowledge and for acquiring the higher learning in the field of nursing
* Possess or acquire good leadership qualities
* Be interested in Advanced nursing practice
* Find your area of interest such as , Clinical nursing, Psychiatric nursing, Obstetric and Gynaecological nursing etc.
* Have a willingness to deliver health services to diverse individuals, groups and families.
* Be interested in research and contribute to the Nursing body of knowledge
Ethical obligations as Master's prepared researcher and Scholar:
* Keep the ethical principles throughout the profession , either it is research , teaching or clinical practice.
* The important four Ethical principles have to follow during research and clinical practice are :
- Autonomy ( respect patient's autonomy)
- Beneficience ( Do good always)
- justice ( Don't show any discrimination based age , sex ,race, colour education, income etc)
- Non maleficence ( Do no harm )
- Veracity ( Tell the truth, don't misguide the patients)
- fidelity ( Be faithful and loyal to the duties)
- Integrity ( Be adhere to the ethical principles)
* Research , that a Scholar in nursing conducts, should contribute to the Nursing profession and to the community.
* There should not be any Plagiarism in a research work or in the research report.
* Use Evidenced based practice and Problem solving in Clinical practice.
* Use Ethical decision making process for promoting the well being of the families, individuals and communities
* Practice independently or collaboratively with interdisciplinary team and have a effective communication with Co workers.
* Provide culturally competent, safe and effective care to all.
* Have an Accountability and responsibility for the continous development of the profession.
Strategies to encourage others:
* Be ethical in your behaviour and practice
* Follow the professional ethics in the practice
* Be a role model for the students nurses and graduate nurses
* Be a change agent and leader for facilitating the Changes for the professional development and quality health care delivery.
* Be original in works related to research and research report writing and provide citations correctly and honestly .
* Encourage others through good attitudes and by providing culturally competent care.
* Use scientific evidences in the practice and demonstrate Problem solving approach in the care.
