1. Patellar tendon rupture

A torn patellar tendon is a serious injury to the knee. Most often occuring in men during sports activities. Tear of the tendon that connects the knee cap to the tibia. Knee cap is also known as patella.

The knee joins the thigh with the leg and consist of two joints, they are tibiofemoral joint( femur and tibia) and patellofemoral joint( femur and patella). Knee joint is a modified hinge joint. It permits flexion and extension and also slight internal and external rotation.

A tendon connects muscle to bone. The upper part of the patellar tendon attaches on the lower part of the kneecap( patella) and lower part to the tibial tubercle on the front of the tibia. Above the patella the 'quadriceps muscle' via the quadriceps tenon attaches to the top of patella.

The patellar ligament, quadriceps muscles, tibio femoral joint, quadriceps tendon, patellar tendon, patellofemoral joint are involved in patellar tendon rupture.
