The Greek theater is an ancient theatrical culture which flourished from 600 BC in the ancient Greece. The Greek theater institutionalized as the part of Dionysia which is a type of festival in Athens, Greece. The comedies in the Greek theaters were performed in outdoor settings and the crowd was allowed to enjoy harmonious music and chorus singing about the exploits of a hero or an ancient god. The open theaters were made next to the hillsides so that the audience could enjoy the music while sitting or standing.
Purpose of the Greek theaters was to use drama as a way of investigating the world and explore “what it meant to be human”. The three genres of drama in the Greek theater were comedy, tragedy and satyr plays. Parts of a Greek theater included the Orchestra, Theatron, Skene, and Parodos. The orchestra or the dancing space was circular in nature and the theatron was the place where spectators sat. The skene was building behind the stage and the Parodos were the entrance and exit points of the performers.
