Globalisation is indeed a long term process rather than a phenomenon that has emerges in the last decades. It is seen as an outcome of the new economic order, the end of the cold war, growth and prosperity as former "Central intelligence agency" head George Bush declared.
Globalisation is the process of growing economic interdependence of countries in the international economy. This occurs through increasing the volume and variety of cross border trade in goods and services.
Globalisation is not only an economic phenomenon, but also comprises political, social and cultural aspects. An example is the global TVs networks, internet's, satellite, etc.
Globalisation is deeply connected with the economic systems and markets which on their turn impact social issues, cultural factors that are hard to overcome regional specificities.
Economic globalisation refers to the widespread international movement of goods, services, technologies and capital. Economic globalisation primarily comprises of production, finance, market, technology, organisational regimes, institutions, corporations and labour.
GLOBALISATION EFFECTS
1. FDI has both direct and indirect effects on employment, it depends on size and type of investment, and the type of technology adopted.
2. The large scale technological developments will reduce the demand on unskilled labour.
3. An increase in the hidden unemployment, a lack of new job openings, and a deterioration of real wage rates are the consequences of globalisation in the most developing economies.
The growing international concern of women's issues, induced by globalisation may change or affect the different national identities through particularities of the national and international culture. The process of modernisation of the society within the framework of globalisation may also lead to changes in the status of women.
The beginning of globalisation goes back to the outcomes of the first voyage of Christopher Columbus that brought him on 1492, to the shore of an island in the carribbean sea.
William McNeill says globalisation is a long term process which had its origin back post the world war II where the transformation of urban rural relationships affected far larger numbers around the globe, details varied from vilage to village, country to country, continent to continent.
Globalisation dark side: unleashing of negative forces as a result of the compression of time and space made possible by modern technology. Examples are terrorism, drug and human trafficking, organised crime, money laundering, and global pandemics.
