Your organization is transferring an employee to your Québec office. This employee is not familiar with the Québec Parental Insurance Plan and has several questions about it. You have been asked to explain the differences between Employment Insurance and the Québec Parental Insurance Plan and what it means to the employee.
Québec Parental Insurance Plan
1) The QPIP is scheme to pay benefits to all eligible workers salaried and/or self-employed - taking maternity leave, paternity leave, parental leave or adoption leave.
2)QPIP gives income replacement of some percentage of income when the employee on leave for reason such as maternity, paternity, parental or adoption.
3) It encourage the employee to devote some time to family without losing whole income for such leave.
Employment Insurance
1. Employment insurance is financial assistance in case of the loss of job. A person can receive employment benefit for a period of time subject to some conditions.
2.To qualify benefit from employment insurance employee must meet fololwing basics conditions
a) Employee lost his/her job through no fault his/her own.e.g. employee not fired for his/her miscnduct.
b)Employee are out of work and have not been paid for at least seven consecutive days.
c)Employee must have worked in a job.
d)Employee must have worked the minimum number of hours in insurable employment during his/her qualifying period.
e)Employee must be able to work and available for work, but unable to find a suitable new job.
Conclusion
QPIP and Employment insurance are two different types of insurance. One gives (QPIP)financial benefit to employee for leaves taken for his/her family and another (employment insurance) gives financial support in case of employee lost his /her job.
