What are the regulatory, ethical and licensure requirements for a hospital to operate successfully
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: Every healthcare institution have certain regulatory laws that guide the proper functioning of various departments. Every department in a hospital is abide by set of rules and regulations, which has to be followed by each and every member who is working in the organization. These regulatory laws are legally approved and stated to every working individual prior to appointment. It frames a code of conduct. One who violates these laws are prone for punishment by the management.
Some of the regulatory laws are related to maintaining patient safety goals, quality improvement, infection control, patient rights, regulations for duty timings, dressing code, Receiving incentives, appraisal, annual leave and many more.
ETHICAL REQUIREMENTS: In a hospital setup the ethics play an important role. Every individual have a certain code of ethics to follow. It is the ethical responsibility of an institution that quality care is delivered to them and all their information are kept confidential. All the resources needed for imparting care should be adequately accessible to health care providers so that it do not produce ethical issues and promote better staff participation. The hospital is also responsible to provide care to the vulnerable groups of the community.
LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Every hospital should have a license to practice. There should be a regulating body that is responsible for regulating the activities of a hospital. These bodies develop rules that establish minimal standards of care.In order to receive these license on has to undergo an inspection by the concerned authority members who checks the minimal quality and standard of care provided by the hospital based on specific criteria. Once the hospital is found adequate in meeting all the requirements, the hospital will be given license which is valid for a certain specified period and it needs to be renewed accordingly. A hospital without licensure is legally not authorized to practice, if found so then the law can take necessary actions against them.
