ANSWER::
Description: We allow our (and others) perceptions, opinions and judgments influence our view of individuals in a negative or positive way. Horn effect is when an individual is influenced by a person overall positive thoughts and feels about that individual, whilst the horn effect is a bias which causes a person's thoughts and feelings toward an individual to become substantially influenced by a single negative trait. |
Example: An example of the halo effect can be a boss that evaluates their employee very highly because they have a positive impression of their employee. Though they may not deserve the rating or be the best suited employee for the job, their boss has a positive impression of them and rates them based on their perceived impression. An example of the horns effect occurred when I just started my position as HR coordinator. Coming into the organization my manager told me that there was a particular employee that was very mean, and that no one liked her. Before I got a chance to meet her I already knew she was going to be a lot to handle and had a negative impression of her before I could form my own opinion. |
