A retailer purchases a certain type of chemical from a supplier on the following quantity discount schedule: • If the order amount is less than 100 kg.s, the supplier charges $30 per kg. • If the order amount is at least 100 kg.s and less than 500 kg.s, the supplier applies an incremental discount where the first 100 kg. costs $30 per kg. and the remaining amount costs $28 per kg. • If the order amount is at least 500 kg.s, the supplier applies an all-units discount and charges $28 per kg. for all units. The ordering cost is $100 per order and the retail owner assumes an annual holding cost based on the annual inflation rate which is 25%. The annual demand of this chemical to retailer is 800 kg.s and the demand rate stays constant in the planning horizon. Back-ordering is disallowed and both the retailer and the supplier works for 365 days in a year. Find the economic order quantity and the order cycle time (in days) that minimizes the total inventory cost. Calculate the minimum total annual inventory cost. Carry out the whole analysis and show all of your calculations. **how is the total cost calculated?**

Now the supplier is offering Omni a quantity discount of 5% for orders over 1500 units and 10% for orders over 6000 units. Omni currently orders 1,000 units 5 times a year to meet annual demand. Omni’s current cost is $3.00, and the selling price is $4.95. The order cost is $42 per unit and the annual holding cost is $25%. Based on the new discount policy, what is the best strategy for the purchasing manager to follow.

You can purchase a certain type of resistor from supplier X, Y or Z. The probability of having a faulty resistor if the resistor was bought from supplier X is 0.02; from supplier Y is 0.05; and from supplier Z is 0.1. Your company purchased a total of 1000 resistors: 300 from supplier X, 500 from supplier Y, and 200 from supplier Z. Suppose 88% of all batteries from a supplier have acceptable voltages. A certain type of flashlight requires two type-D batteries, and the flashlight will work only if both its batteries have acceptable voltages. Treat all batteries and flashlights as independent of each other. (a) In 20 randomly selected batteries, what is the probability that 19 or 20 have acceptable voltages? (b) Suppose 20 randomly selected batteries are placed into 10 flashlights. What is the probability that at least 9 of...
