Use the VIP approach to analyze the delemma:
Values- discuss 3 personal values that may determine if you would or would not recycle wastewaer. How did you acquire these values from parents, politics, religion, education etc?
Ethical Issues- Identigy ethical concerns or issues at least 2 about drinking or using wastewater. Are you willing to drink or use the water?why or why not?
Perspectives- Describe multiple viewpoints of recycling wastewater. How many others interpret this form of recycling? This may include perspectives of politicians, health care professionals, ecologists, local citizens and ypur own perspective.
In your discussion you must hightlight, define and explain how social psychology concepts are relevant to this discussion by including 5 of the following:
social cognition cognitive attitude
affective attitude
pluralistic ignorance cognitive dissonance
causal attribution central route to persuation
just world hypothesis peripheral route to persuation
behavioral attitude social influence
Water recycling is a process where wastewater is treated for
beneficial purposes such as agricultural and landscape irrigation,
industrial processes, toilet flushing, and replenishing a
groundwater basin.
3 personal values which I will take into account while discussing
about this is dependency because today water scarcity is something
which has expands itself and we all are dependent on water for our
daily needs, second value will be citizenship or helping others
since if we continue to use water and do not recycle it, than there
will be a future where our progenies will be fighting for water and
maybe water become something which people see only in museums, and
third value is creativity because although there are many ways to
recycle the water, what is a new way that can be both good and
environment friendly will be my success and my idea to support this
mission. I acquire these values from my society and significant
others since we live in the collectivistic culture where we are
dependent on others and the same time we are also the companion of
theirs.
2 concerns regarding the use of wastewater are, first of all, it
will not in any sense be ethical to use this water for drinking
since it will lead to plenty of hazards to health of people and
second of all this kind of water is not good for marine life which
is solely dependent on water and their existence will be sacrificed
by using this kind of water so in my opinion using such kind of
water is not good unless it is recycled properly.
Use a Shower Bucket, Install a Rain Barrel, Create a Rain Garden,
Rain gardens take advantage of land's natural water runoff to
nourish the plants that live there. These are some ways to save and
recycle water.
While discussing these views we can see how social psychology is
working like first of all the attitudes which are state of views
about a particular topic or object. Here water is that topic and
all 3 components of attitude that are affective, behavioural and
cognitive work here A-B-C, since when we take into account the
positive viewpoints about recycling wastewater we are talking about
cognitive attitude, when we say we you say you are very tensed
about the depletion of water levels you are indicating affective
attitude, and when you decide to use different ways to recycle
wastewater you are it shows behavioural attitude. It also tells us
about the impression formation since when we talk about saving and
recycling water and we acquire the values from parents and
significant others it shows that we form the positive impression
about them and agree with them and follow their viewpoints. Here
cognitive dissonance can also be explained since when we talk about
the use of wastewater 2 situations arise first wastewater causes
health hazards and second we use wastewater, here person will be in
dilemma and ultimately change one of the ideas so that consonance
be achieved.
