The ANA has stated, "Education for those in the health-care professions must increase in depth and breadth as scientific knowledge expands" (Catalano, 2012, p.91) According to Catalano, there has been a lack of adequate preparation for educating clients with self-management concerns, particularly clients with chronic illnesses, and this lack of education is a serious violation of ethical responsibilities by health care providers.

Do you agree or disagree with these statement and why? Is the failure to properly educate clients the fault of the Nurse? Does the Nurse's level of education matter? Why do you feel that way?

Expert Solution

Answer: In most of the cases, it has been found that lack of knowledge or the inability of the nurses to explain the teaching care plan to the patient leads to various problems. Due to increased population, many different cultural patients visit hospital everyday. Hence, the nurse need to be very specific about explaining the care plan to the patients.

The level of the education of the nurse matters. Because the way or the method nurse uses to explain the self care to the patient has major impact. Sometimes patient did not understand things clearly and hence this causes other severe problems and health issues. Most of the time adverse drug action occurs which increases the complications in the patient. So, the level of the nurse education matters, the nurse can easily explain about the self care management to the patient. The more educated nurse will, the less complications will occur in patient's health. Because nurse will indulge themselves in providing improved care to the patient.
