The banking sector plays an essential role in the development of any economy. In thebanking sector, the current pattern of Oman's economy is big fish would eat big fish, andthere is space for small fish. In 2017 Bank Muscat was the top first bank by profit, followed by NBO and Bank Dhofar. Those three local banks are "big fish" eating eachother in the Omani market and giving the space for "small fish" like Sohar International,Oman Arab Bank, HSBC Oman, Ahli Bank, Bank Nizwa, and Alizz Islamic Bank to come up.
