When it came to Massachusetts, there was no place was religious dissent when it come to the bay colony. The people were extremely dedicated to God's work and any kind of dissent was not seen in a positive light. As a result when people like Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson dissented during the 1930s, it became the matter of a great controversy.
Anne Hutchinson was vocal about her dissent and that when even she was a religious woman. She believed that the authority had lost their way even when they had started on the right notes. This kind of thinking and ideology was very dangerous in that time and people believed that if they would not believe in the church then it would lead to anarchy.
The case of Roger Williams was similar to that of Anne Hutchinson. He believed that the church should not interfere when it came to the matters of the state. Also, the state should not interfere when it came to the matters of religion. Puritans had no plurality of thought and hence such thoughts were looked down upon by the people as they shook the status quo.
